McDonalds. The International world renown successful entrepreneur, is officially closing shop in Bolivia. After ten years in business - without once generating a net profit - McDonalds is fed up with Bolivia and now leaving the country. Bolivians are not fed up with McDonalds, because they never tried the food, however in all ways they're indifferent to McDonalds leaving.
McDonalds began as a one shop burger joint, and quickly spread from coast to coast across America. They have found success in more than 80 countries, worldwide. And have only had one failure with their global method : Bolivia.
In Bolivia, the idea of fast food, is just not appealing to the culture. Long hours and fresh BBQs are popular amongst the culture. But 2 minute golden fries and 5 Boliviano Burgers, are just not successfully marketing Bolivians.
McDonalds has 8 stores currently open, soon to shut them all down. The stores are seldom frequented and are located in urban areas. So why is it, with unparalleled world renown success, McDonalds just didn't do it for Bolivians?
The question remains open. Bolivia was the only franchaise that had been reporting a loss. McDonalds is successful in neighboring Peru and all other South American countries with large indigenous populations.
