Spain has strict immigration laws, focused on keeping Moroccans and other immigrants out. But, what about emigration? Over 2,600 Spaniards have left Spain and immigrated TO Morocco to find jobs. That's right, Spain's economy is doing so poorly that the masses of unemployed are coming to Morocco to find work.
"We don't really mind it," says one Moroccan in Casablanca, "They're usually polite and work hard for the money". Moroccans have a lower wage than Spain, however, that does not hinder currently unemployed youth and older individuals from venturing to this North African neighbor.
Numbers of immigrants coming for work in Morocco are on the rise by over 15% from 2010. Not only from Spain, but also from Tunisia and several African countries nearby. Many Africans walk to cities like Casablanca, or take the bus, and plan on making it eventually to Spain. However they decide to settle in Morocco and reside out there instead.
